Exmovere shows off Exmobaby biosensor pajamas 4 babies, com`g to retail in 2011

Baby monitors`ve become quite commonplace over the past 20 years or so, & come in many variations. Exmovere (a company Z previously produced the wearable Chariot )`s debuted the new type of monitor, however, which R actually part of the baby’s pajamas, & which R said to help monitor heart rate, emotional state & behavior. The outift — called Exmobaby — uses the Zigbee wireless standard, effectively connect`g the baby to the home wireless network, enabl`g the parents (or U know, whoever’s around) to track the babies various states via icons on their mobile phones. LG’s C900 Windows Phone 7 handset resurfaces w/ 1.3GHz Snapdragon, metal frame? (video)

V imagine Z LG’s security forces R comb`g Poland as V speak, because Android.com.pl`s just provided us w/ yet another high-end handset leak. This LG C900 (last seen comb`g AT&T trenches ) reportedly joins LG’s E900 in hous`g the 1.3GHz QSD8650A Snapdragon chipset under its sliding-QWERTY hood. Though our 1st look @ the device suggested the plasticky matte frame, our erudite Polish informants tell us the phone’s mostly metal inside — despite the comparatively teensy 3.2-inch capacitive screen, they say it weighs about as much as an original Motorola Droid . the 3.5mm jack & the miniUSB port`ll play nice w/ headsets & charg`g cables respectively, & the site says it’ll run 1,100 zloty (about $350) if or when LG’s marketers recover from the shock of these leaked details & decide to ship. BeamAtic Premium headlights let U keep U high beams on all night long

It looks like the highways of Japan could soon get the bit brighter — @ least if these new BeamAtic Premium head lights from Ichikoh Industries ever catch on. Developed by France’s Valeo SA, the headlights make use of an on-board camera & some image process`g software Z tracks oncom`g vehicles, & some movable dousers attached to the headlights Z R able to deflect the light so it doesn’t bother other drivers; the idea there be`g Z U could simply leave your high beams on all the time without worry`g about blind`g anyone. No word on any plans 4 the release over here, although (unless) you’ll apparently B able to get them in Japan next month, & the company`s also reportedly look`g to talk some Japanese automakers into offer`g them as the factory-installed option. Homebrew Cray-1A emulates the iconic supercomputer, to no useful purpose

The Cray-1A 1st made the scene in 1976, weigh`g 5.5 tons (includ`g the refrigeration system) & runn`g @ 80MHz — w/ the whopp`g 8MB RAM. Who wouldn’t want to own 1 — or the miniature version of one, 4 Z matter? Chris Fenton would, apparently. Yes, it’s Z Chris Fenton — the electrical engineer who once made the $50 laptop out of the PICAXE 18X Microcontroller & 96 bytes of RAM (and some wood). & he’s back w/ the 1/10-scale Cray-1A. & unlike the similar project we’ve seen in the past, this bad boy runs the custom Cray emulator (too bad there doesn’t seem to B any Cray software float`g around). Motorola Milestone 2 makes official, albeit unintentional, debut

DARPA’s Transformer TX ‘fly`g Humvee’ project gets off the ground

Sometimes it feels like the Military-Industrial Complex only exists to keep us entertained w/ tales of laser weapons & robots Z eat enemy combatants — not Z we’d complain if it did! & 4 today’s fantastical wargadget , we`ve noth`g less than the fly`g Humvee. The Transformer TX project calls 4 four-man vehicle Z drives like the jeep & then takes off to avoid roadside bombs (or impress the ladies). While DARPA`s yet to say who`ll B awarded w/ the contract 4 the conceptual design stage of the project, Popular Mechanics`s done some digg`g & it looks like Lockheed Martin & AAI Corp R both on the short list. New Xbox 360 controller w/ improved D-pad confirmed, $65 on November 9

Hey, what’s this? V just started hear`g rumors this morn`g Z Microsoft`s plann`g the new Xbox 360 controller w/ an improved D-pad, & bang — Major Nelson just went live w/ the YouTube video detail`g the new piece. The new D-pad`s the trick new patented design that’s just as V heard from Joystiq : it’s the disc in the normal configuration, although (unless) the quick twist raises the crossbars about the quarter-inch, mak`g it eminently more usable. (That sound U hear`s joyous weeping.) The analog sticks`ve also`en slightly tweaked to B concave, & — wonder of wonders — the ABXY buttons R now translucent monochrome instead of colored. Wild. The new matte silver controller`ll only come bundled w/ the Play & Charge kit 4 $64.99 when it launches on November 9 in the States & replaces the exist`g wireless controller — it’ll hit Europe around February. Yep, it definitely seems like the major upgrade, although (unless) we’ve got the couple questions: when`ll it replace the packed-in controller?

Let’s take the moment to congratulate Toshiba on the fine feat of engineering. Roku lowers prices across the board: HD box now $69, $99 HD-XR to get 1080p support

Robotic Yale Aerial Manipulator grabs the can of Guinness

New fiber optic cables promise to br`g better, cheaper internet access to West Africa

Inhabitat’s Week in Green: of pedal-powered submarines & soda-powered fuel cells

Each week our friends @ Inhabitat recap the week’s most interest`g green developments & clean tech news 4 us — it’s the Week in Green. This week, California saw the tremendous boost 4 solar power as the nation’s 1st solar thermal plant in 2 decades`s approved 4 Kern County. V also saw several incredible new approaches to generat`g alternative energy as researchers took crucial steps towards tapp`g the skies 4 lightn`g power & scientists unveiled the fuel cell battery Z can B powered by soda . & if U can barely contain yourself @ the prospect of pop-powered batteries, relax — the team of scientists`s also work`g on us`g urine to create low-cost fuel cells . This week V also watched green transportation take the plunge beneath the sea as French engineers unveiled an awesome pedal-powered submarine . Our neighbors to the north also broke news as students @ the University of British Columbia embarked upon the record-sett`g trip across Canada in an electrified VW Beetle & 3 Canadian schools announced plans to create the car out of cannabis – hopefully it doesn’t go up in smoke. Finally, V took the (sobering) look @ the havoc Z poor public transportation plann`g can wreak: the massive traffic jam in China Z extended 4 more than 60 miles & 9 days. Speak`g of students, here R the few projects to get U energized 4 the com`g school year: the German tank armory`s recently transformed into an ultra-modern solar-powered school , & V showcased some of the world’s most incredible student-built structures . In other news, V brought U 2 dispatches from the realm of wearable tech – the new energy-harvest`g film Z could wire your wardrobe & the line of cloth`g Z lets U send & receive phone calls . Joojoo lawsuit shocker! Court rules Fusion Garage & TechCrunch were Business partners, tosses most everyth`g else

It’s`en the few blissful months since we’ve thought about or`d to interact w/ the Joojoo , although (unless) the court case Michael Arrington & TechCrunch filed against Fusion Garage just reached the significant milestone: the judge threw out several of Arrington’s claims while importantly hold`g Z TechCrunch & Fusion Garage were in fact Business partners w/ legal obligations to each other. Here’s the basic timeline so far: since there`s (unbelievably) never the contract between TechCrunch & Fusion Garage to develop the CrunchPad / Joojoo, TechCrunch`d to rely on the variety of alternative arguments in its initial complaint, which reached the zenith of optimistic fabrication in someth`g called “misappropriation of Business ideas.” (We ran down the whole list way back in December, & also broke down Fusion Garage’s subsequent motion to dismiss in February.) The court didn’t buy most of those arguments & dismissed everyth`g although (unless) the breach of fiduciary duty claim in this latest ruling, which`s both the significant loss & the significant win 4 TechCrunch: breach of fiduciary duty`s always struck us as TechCrunch’s strongest argument, & the court’s now effectively ruled Z Fusion Garage & TechCrunch were indeed involved in the joint Business venture w/ legal obligations to protect each others’ interests. That’s not the bad position from which to proceed — although TechCrunch now`s to prove Z Fusion Garage actually violated its duty by releas`g the Joojoo on its own, which`s the whole new fight. (The court also gave TechCrunch 20 days to try & amend some of its other claims, although (unless) “misappropriation of Business ideas”`s basically thrown out the window entirely.) So what’s next? We’re guess`g another few months of cheerfully hostile motions accus`g the oppos`g party of thwart`g discovery & some firecracker depositions, all culminat`g in the matched pair of snippy motions 4 summary judgment. The suits, they dine well tonight. P.S.- How or why either company continues to pay 4 all these legal bills`s beyond us, although (unless) we’ve actually heard rumors of the Joojoo 2, so things could get even crazier. & potentially even less responsive to touch-based events. LG to unveil LEX8 3DTV @ IFA featur`g ‘Nano LED’ backlighting

Now Z LED backlight`g`s trickled down to nearly every HDTV lineup, it appears the big manufacturers`ll`ve to find new ways to differentiate their products, like LG’s upcom`g LEX8 television. Set to debut @ IFA in Berlin before go`g on sale in Germany & Korea next month (no word on the US), LG claims Z thanks to the ‘thin film of miniscule dots positioned in front of the full array of LEDs’ its Nano Light`g technology makes 4 the clearer, smoother picture, w/ the slimmest & narrowest outline of any LED TV, ever , @ just .88cm thick w/ the 1.25cm bezel. Of course LG’s NetCast widgets & Magic Motion remote R along 4 the ride as well, while we’ll`ve to wait until the show opens later this week to get our eyes on this beauty, check after the break 4 the few more pictures. HP’s Phil McKinney teases 3 mystery prototypes on Twitter

Well, this`s certainly interest`g — that’s HP CTO Phil McKinney pictured above in the pair of redacted shots Z were posted to Twitter by HP’s Mark Budgell. Described only as “early protos” by McKinney himself, the pictures show what appears to B phone-sized device, the tablet-sized device and, perhaps most curiously, someth`g on McKinney’s wrist (all mysteriously blacked out). Before U get your hopes up too much about the new wave of webOS devices, however, U might want to take the look @ the 2nd part of Budgell’s tweet, which encourages folks to vote 4 McKinney’s SXSW 2011 panel — the panel in which McKinney promises to make some “bold predictions 4 the future – backed up w/ the number of breakthrough prototypes,” & specifically talk about what the future`ll look like in “5 to 10 years.” Now, V can’t B certain of course, although (unless) Z doesn’t exactly suggest these R right around the corner. Samsung Fascinate ready 4 Best Buy in-store pre-order ahead of rumored September 9 launch

Verizon can’t B feel`g too hot about be`g the straggler to the Galaxy S party , although (unless) the wait seems to B almost @ an end. Best Buy’s just started tak`g in-store pre-orders 4 the Fascinate , while the latest internal document leak from VZW indicates the specific September 9 launch 4 the 4-inch Android handset. Nikon Coolpix P7000, D7000 DSLR rumored to B launch`g September 8th, 15th

We’ve already heard some rumors 4 both Nikon’s Coolpix P7000 point-and-shoot & its supposed D90-successor, the D7000 , although (unless) it looks like things R unexpectedly heat`g up the bit further ahead of Photokina next month. Samsung Galaxy Tab, in the wild & now teas`g CDMA

Okay, this`s gett`g ridiculous . Samsung’s Galaxy Tab`s once again surfaced online via unofficial channels, & this time it’s carry`g the sticker on 1 side Z clearly states CDMA. The iAndroid forum goer who allegedly snapped these shots praised the device 4 its strong speakers, call quality (although not clear if that’s over 3G or WiFi), & ability to run Flash — although (unless) @ the same time notes the GPS`s just the bit slow ( it does work , though). Samsung Galaxy Tab to`ve HDMI dock, leather case, & other sideshow trinkets

We’re start`g to think Samsung`s given up the pretense of keep`g the Galaxy Tab ‘s details secret and`s lett`g them all out now. Accessories 4 its upcom`g 7-inch Android tablet`ve`en spotted on 1 of Sammy’s many online portals, complete w/ pricing. The headline act here`ll B Z “table charg`g station” on the top left, which happens to`ve the neat set of HDMI & audio output ports, mak`g the Tab the quirky although (unless) viable choice 4 pump`g movies into your HDTV. It’s said to B priced @ €54 ($69), which V might consider expensive if it wasn’t 4 the keyboard peripheral cost`g €82 ($105). The relative bargain of the set`s the leather case Z doubles as the stand, ask`g 4 only €41 ($52). Bear in mind we’ve spotted some non-Latin writ`g on the front of the dock, so it’s possible we’re look`g @ localized Asian pricing, which might dip (or rise!) once the Tab & its cohorts make their way westward. The multitouch UI puts Microsoft Surface to good use, w/ gestures & contextual commands Z make operat`g an unruly group of robots look easy, & the console-inspired touch control setup 4 operat`g the single bot from the 1st person perspective as well. Toshiba’s Tegra 2-powered Android Smart Pad to B called Folio 100?

the Smart Pad ? That’s just Toshiba’s product category, accord`g to Netbook Italia’s latest post on the tablet (it’s previously shown off some apparent imagery ). The publication`s published new renders — includ`g the dock peripheral — & some purported specs. Here’s what’s be`g said: Android 2.2, NVIDIA Tegra 2 (both of which we’ve heard in other whispers ), the 10.1-inch 1024 x 600 screen, 16GB internal memory, 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth, 3G, SD & MMC card readers, HDMI & USB 2.0 ports, the 1.3 megapixel webcam, & the 1020mAh battery w/ the battery life of up to 7 hours w/ mixed use (brows`g & video playback). StreamTV Elocity A7 tablet packs Tegra 2 & Android 2.2, com`g to Amazon 4 $399 in September

The Philadelphia start-up`s plann`g to br`g its Elocity A7 — essentially the re-badged Compal’s NAZ-10 — to an Amazon order page near you, & from what V saw dur`g the hour-long demo it may just B the contender 4 your stashed away $399. The 7-inch tablet`s an extremely responsive 800 x 480 resolution, capacitive touchscreen — yes, multitouch worked in the browser & photo gallery — w/ the front-fac`g 1.3 megapixel cam on the left bezel. V actually got to make the quick Fr`g video call to 1 of the other tablets in the room, though it`s rather lagg`g since V were runn`g over it all 3G. (Thank U 1GHz Tegra II-720 CPU!) Speak`g of, V also got to play the rac`g game, Asphalt 5, on the device, though the accelerometer steer`g`s the bit flaky. Besides that, we’ve got to say the entire tablet experience`s pretty smooth — U can C 4 yourself after the break & in the upcom`g episode of the Engadget Show — although (unless) the unit V saw`s runn`g Android 2.1. Researchers set new record 4 ferroelectric data storage

Ferroelectric isn’t just the ridiculously fun word to say, it might just also B the future of comput`g .
