BMW’s NFC Key`s your ticket to ride, & U`ldcare (video)
Near Field Communication ( NFC )`s shap`g up to B 1 of the hottest tech trends 4 2011 now Z payment systems & new handsets (driven by the Gingerbread build of Android & presumably, the near-term iOS release ) R mak`g their way into the US & Europe. Add BMW to the grow`g list of supporters w/ its NFC key of the future. Bimmer researchers envision link`g the key to the car’s navigation & entertainment system allow`g U to make hotel reservations or purchase train tickets, 4 example. U could then download the ticket directly from your car to the key which could then B used to board the train. Later, the key linked to your bank`g information could even B used to settle the hotel bill. BMW believes its approach`s more secure than Z of an NFC-enabled cellphone because its system`s both closed & encrypted. Possibly. although (unless) we’re still more likely to`ve our cellphone in the pocket while travel`g than the key to the car parked the few hundred miles away. Of course, there’s noth`g prevent`g us from tapp`g the key to our cellphone & transferr`g the data — it`s still in the R&D phase 4 the next generation of ConnectedDrive after all.
