Buy`g an iPhone 4 from the Canadian carrier? It’s locked
We’ve`en tipped this morn`g (and`ve now`en able to confirm, thanks to our own Myriam Joire brav`g the lines) Z if U buy an iPhone 4 in the Canadian carrier’s store today, U leave w/ it locked to Z carrier — despite Apple’s trumpet`g Z U can buy it SIM-free. It appears as though the activation process might B responsible 4 caus`g the carrier lock — either that, or the carriers’ subsidized models R shipped locked, unlike the full-price devices U can buy directly from Apple. Either way, it’s the bummer, & it’s certainly someth`g to take into consideration before U buy. Thanks, Chris Update: We’ve now confirmed Z the lock`s happen`g @ the time the phone`s activated — in other words, it begins life carrier-agnostic. Pretty wild stuff.
