CHAdeMO EV quick-chargers to get wider tests across US, 80% capacity in 30 mins or less

The idea of wait`g around 4 hours 4 your EV to recharge`s soon to become the th`g of the past — or rather it already`s in Japan, where the CHAdeMO -style chargers R enabl`g cars like the Nissan Leaf to get to 80 percent battery capacity in just 30 minutes. Now they’re properly start`g their US invasion. The 1st assault came in Portland the few months back, w/ 310 more stations lin`g up 4 deployment in Arizona, California, Texas, Tennessee, Oregon, & elsewhere in Washington accord`g to Yomiuri . The move`ll cost about $230 million total, though there’s no word on whether they’ll B publically available like the 1 in Portland is. CHAdeMO, which`s the play on the Japanese “O cha demo ikaga desuka” (“let’s`ve tea while charging”), works by handl`g the AC to DC conversion externally & provid`g power @ up to 500VDC & 125 Amps, much higher than on-board AC/DC converters can handle. This drives down recharg`g time massively — even if U don’t like tea.
