Sometimes it feels like the Military-Industrial Complex only exists to keep us entertained w/ tales of laser weapons & robots Z eat enemy combatants — not Z we’d complain if it did! & 4 today’s fantastical wargadget , we`ve noth`g less than the fly`g Humvee. The Transformer TX project calls 4 four-man vehicle Z drives like the jeep & then takes off to avoid roadside bombs (or impress the ladies). While DARPA`s yet to say who`ll B awarded w/ the contract 4 the conceptual design stage of the project, Popular Mechanics`s done some digg`g & it looks like Lockheed Martin & AAI Corp R both on the short list. While the former`s declined to talk about its offering, AAI’s incorporates someth`g called “slowed-rotor / compound,” where the rotor provides lift on takeoff, & when it achieves the certain speed wings take over. We’ll B wait`g 4 our review unit, although (unless) in the meantime U can get the closer look after the break.
