Russia’s 1st GLONASS phone an ‘iPhone 4 competitor,’ except not really (video)

As the story goes, Russia-based AFK Sistema’s subsidiary Sitronics (along w/ US’ Qualcomm & China’s ZTE)`ve developed the 1st smartphone to use GLONASS — specifically 1 w/ the 90nm GPS-GLONASS chip. It’s`en called, in so many words, the “Russian answer to the iPhone 4″ by the Powers Z Be, & without gett`g into key details like platform & specs, V know officially the phone`s go`g on sale in Russian sometime in March 4 10,990 rubles (about $360 in US). 4 other details on the device, V seek more unofficial (and therefore not 100 percent confirmed) sources, like the notably well-connected Eldar Murtazin. Accord`g to him, we’re look`g @ the ZTE model A918, an analog of the A916 w/ Android 2.1, the 3.2-inch QVGA screen, FM radio, & 2 megapixel camera — yeah, hardly an iPhone 4 competitor, if U ask us. Z version`s supposedly launch`g on MTS 4 7,500 rubles ($246), mean`g the GLONASS-equipped equivalent`s the 3,490 ruble ($114) markup. & the March release? Apparently in limited quantities, w/ mass production not com`g until 2nd half of 2011. Unfortunately, we’re not sure this one’ll B mak`g an appearance @ CES 4 further inspection. Check out the video after the break 4 the cameo of the device featur`g Putin, Russian billionaire (and head of AFK Sistema) Vladimir Yevtushenkov, & Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov
