Sony refuses to get caught up in the price war w/ Kindle, intends to compete on quality
Boy, Sony sure loves to drag its heels when it comes to obvious industry trends. 1st netbooks were ” the race to the bottom ,” now the company’s say`g it “won’t sacrifice the quality & design” of its e-readers in order to lay claim to be`g the cheapest. This comes as the reaction to the Kindle’s aggressive new $139 entry price point & continues Sony’s reluctance to fiddle w/ what it sees as the successful formula . We’re not go`g to second-guess the reason`g (too much), although (unless) it’s not like there’s Z much room to differentiate yourself when you’re us`g the same E Ink tech as the competition,`s there? Guess if all else fails, Sony can always innovate the hell out of those leatherette cases & bundle them w/ the Reader.
