StreamTV Elocity A7 tablet packs Tegra 2 & Android 2.2, com`g to Amazon 4 $399 in September

V can’t say we’d ever heard of StreamTV, although (unless) all the company`d to say`s ” Tegra 2 Android Froyo tablet” to get us to meet up w/ them in NYC earlier today. The Philadelphia start-up`s plann`g to br`g its Elocity A7 — essentially the re-badged Compal’s NAZ-10 — to an Amazon order page near you, & from what V saw dur`g the hour-long demo it may just B the contender 4 your stashed away $399. The 7-inch tablet`s an extremely responsive 800 x 480 resolution, capacitive touchscreen — yes, multitouch worked in the browser & photo gallery — w/ the front-fac`g 1.3 megapixel cam on the left bezel. V actually got to make the quick Fr`g video call to 1 of the other tablets in the room, though it`s rather lagg`g since V were runn`g over it all 3G. Surround`g the tablet`s an SD card slot along w/ USB & HDMI ports, the latter of which did come very handy 4 hook`g up the tablet to the 22-inch HDTV & watch`g an extremely smooth 1080p clip. (Thank U 1GHz Tegra II-720 CPU!) Speak`g of, V also got to play the rac`g game, Asphalt 5, on the device, though the accelerometer steer`g`s the bit flaky. Besides that, we’ve got to say the entire tablet experience`s pretty smooth — U can C 4 yourself after the break & in the upcom`g episode of the Engadget Show — although (unless) the unit V saw`s runn`g Android 2.1. The SteamTV’s CEO says they’ll only B shipp`g 2.2-runn`g units come October & w/ the supplemental GetJar app store since it cannot preload Google’s Marketplace because of restrictions.
