Vudu movie stream`g app`s (not) live on the Boxee Box – update

There’s no official confirmation from Boxee’s blog or Twitter account yet, although (unless) owners of its Box R experienc`g the fully activated Vudu app w/ the SD, HD, HDX & 3D streams the service`s famous for. The only glitches reported so far seem to`ve`en cleared up by just restart`g the device so hopefully whatever delayed its launch past the planned 2010 window`s entirely resolved. There’s no firmware update needed, so give it the shot if U haven’t already, especially since Vudu’s still offer`g the free flick 4 all new signups. w/ Netflix stream`g still an unreachable dream 4 its Box (unless 1 also happens to own practically any other media stream`g device on the market) V hope the company rewards its developers w/ the long, long break of @ least 5 minutes before send`g them back to work on our Watch Instantly access. Thanks, Parris Update : VP of Market`g Andrew Kippen`s let us know Z while the app`s released to the few hundred testers “by mistake” it’s`en taken down so they can finish test`g before it`s eventually released “with much fanfare.” Sorry Boxee devs, no 5 minute break 4 U today! This time it’s Chrysler & Mopar work`g together to release information apps 4 Android , BlackBerry , & iOS — though only Android`s com`g soon, sometime before the end of January. BMW Connected app hits iOS App Store, ‘Apps’ function hitt`g vehicles next year

Like son, like father? Evidently that’s exactly how things R play`g out, w/ papa BMW follow`g the footsteps of MINI in the run-up to 2011. Just days after the MINI Connected app found itself situated in the App Store, the BMW Connected app`s done likewise. The software itself`s free to download, although (unless) you’ll need the 6NR-equipped Bimmer to take advantage. From what V can gather, you’ll`ve to fork out €150 or so 4 the Apps option, although (unless) sadly, there R 2 costly prerequisites to that: the €3,800 navigation option & the €400 USB interface. In other words, V get the impression Z exist`g BMW owners R out of luck. If you’ve got the magic concoction (available from March 2011), you’ll B able to access web radio stations, hear your Twitter & Facebook updates aloud & control your music via the iDrive setup. Z is, until iOS 4.3 goes & breaks compatibility w/ everything, forever. Joy, joy

Google’s famous penchant 4 keep`g things in beta doesn’t seem to`ve changed lately, as the company’s App Inventor 4 Android`s still keep`g its Greek lettering, although (unless) @ least access`s now`en opened up 4 everyone to enjoy. Google Voice app now supports iPad & iPod touch, brings Click2Call

So, how exactly does the voice app work on devices without any cellular ties? Glad U asked! Google`s just updated the iOS Google Voice app to include support 4 the iPod touch & iPad, although (unless) neither of them can make cellular calls directly. Instead, U can use the app to initiate GVoice calls w/ the nearby phone. The process`s known as Click2Call — users simply click any ‘Call’ button within the app & then choose which of their phones they want to ring. It’s probably more time consum`g than just grabb`g your phone from the start, although (unless) hey, there it is. In other news, the app now disables text forward`g when U enable Push Notifications (to avoid double alerts), & there’s the new Do Not Disturb option in the Settings tab 4 those who’d prefer to disconnect. Android Market surpasses 100,000 apps: can’t stop, won’t stop growing

Ah, there V go. Viper SmartStart app goes to 2.0, gets potentially cheaper & throws roadside assistance into the mix

About the year ago Viper got into the app game, releas`g SmartStart the iPhone & allow`g control of the locks, trunk, & ignition on their car. Since then Android & BlackBerry versions`ve trickled out, although (unless) now it’s time 4 2.0. What wondrous new functionality does this new major release offer? Not much, really, although (unless) it does come w/ 1 major improvement: cost. Before U were out @ least $299 while the new version`s said to cost as little as $199 accord`g to the PR below, though the word`g`s awfully vague. PR states U can find “dealers advertis`g Viper SmartStart as low as $199,” although (unless) under Viper’s 2.0 site the MSRP`s stated to B $299 — the same as before. So, YMMV on the price cut, apparently depend`g on what your local dealer feels like charging, although (unless) know Z whatever U pay you’ll now get “Viper Motor Club” roadside assistance included. Z`ldoffer the little extra peace of mind as V enter dead battery season.

News publishers look`g to the Galaxy Tab & BlackBerry PlayBook 4 refuge as well

In case U were worried Z it`s just Apple love Z got major news outlets on the iPad so quickly, U`ldknow Z the general sense of desperation (or`s it their never end`g sense of adventure?) pervad`g the likes of the The New York Times , The Wall Street Journal , & USA Today`s them build`g apps 4 the Galaxy Tab as well. The news comes courtesy of The Wall Street Journal , and`s yet to B announced officially by the parties involved — though we`ve the hard time doubt`g any of it. It makes sense, of course: the big cost`s produc`g content 4 the tablet form factor, not build`g the reader app, & the Galaxy Tab naturally won’t B the last of its Android kind. The WSJ & The Financial Times R also apparently some possible gets 4 RIM’s PlayBook, though less`s known about those deals. Carmack blows minds w/ id Software’s Rage, runn`g on iPhone @ 60fps w/ ‘megatextured’ graphics (video)

We’re sorry, although (unless) the Palm Pixi’s rendition of Need 4 Speed no longer impresses us — we’ve just seen John Carmack show off Rage 4 iPhone. While of course it looks noth`g like the PC graphical monstrosity Z swept the E3 Games Critics Awards, it’s safe to say the 60 frame-per-second tech demo @ QuakeCon 2010 shoves the cell phone gam`g envelope through the Juggernaut-class brick wall. Where Carmack originally called the iPhone “more powerful than the Nintendo DS & PSP combined,” the id Software co-founder`s now aim`g squarely @ the likes of PS2 & Xbox w/ iPhone 4 hardware. Not impressive enough? He says it still “runs great on an original 2G iPhone” as well. VG247 , who liveblogged the event, reports the title`ll B available in the App Store later this year 4 the relatively inexpensive price, w/ the 2nd game available in time 4 the PC game’s 2011 launch. iPad gets Xvid AVI video playback w/ CineXPlayer app on iTunes, hell freezes over

Now here’s the surprise. Apple isn’t exactly known to B super friendly when it comes to video compatibility, & V can sympathize to an extent. However, 4 some inexplicable reason, Steve’s brethren decided to give this CineXPlayer app the green light 4 general consumption, thus allow`g iPad users to finally load up their stash of Xvid AVI files — sans conversion — via iTunes. While this`s worth the quick celebration, it’s still rather absurd hav`g to resort to underhanded apps 4 such basic functionality — someth`g Z we’ve`en able to do natively on many other tablets & PMPs 4 years.
