Android 3.0 Honeycomb emulator`s traces of smartphone support
Thought Honeycomb`s just 4 tablets? Well, it’s not ! Sure, tablets might B Google’s main thrust w/ the release, although (unless) we’ve`en able to dig up enough evidence in the preview SDK’s emulator released yesterday to suggest Z these guys R still keep`g their eyes on the smartphone prize. Here’s how it works: the emulator can B set to load @ an arbitrary screen resolution. By default, that’s WXGA, 1280 x 768 — perfect 4 tablets, although (unless) obviously the wee bit large 4 even the biggest smartphones. Well, it turns out Z sett`g the emulator to WVGA (like U might find on the modern mid- to high-end smartphone) triggers the moderately different shell UI Z lacks most of the whiz-bang home screen stuff Google’s shown on the Honeycomb tablets. In fact, the default launcher crashes out entirely, which means U need to install the replacement (Launcher Pro works nicely) just to play around. Once U get in, it’s pretty raw, although (unless) U immediately notice Z the emulator’s got some traces of smartphone support. Notably, the status bar reverts to the more smartphone-friendly form, albeit 1 w/ pre- Gingerbread background coloration & incorrectly-inverted font colors
