We`d the feel`g we’d B see`g the well-leaked Nikon D3100 this week after the Coolpix S1100pj & S5100 were officially launched on Tuesday, & here it is, right on cue. Just as we’d heard, the big news`s the addition of the 1080p/24 H.264 AVCHD movie mode w/ continuous contrast-detect autofocus, complete w/ face detection & subject tracking. That’s the major 1st in the DSLR world, although we’re extremely curious to hear how much focus motor noise U can hear in the clips — we’ve definitely`d issues w/ other continuous autofocus systems in the past. Z new focus system carries over to regular Live View & the 720p movie mode, which shoots @ both 24 & 30fps, & the new 14.2 megapixel sensor can B boosted from its native max of ISO 3200 up to 12,800 4 some low-light action. Around back there’s the three-inch screen, & Nikon’s also beefed up the Guide mode, which the company says`s extremely popular on the D3000 — it shows U how to use the various features of the camera, complete w/ comparison shots show`g the effects of different settings. The D3100`ll run $699 w/ the usual 18-55mm VR kit lens when it hits in September — we’ve got grand plans to put Z video AF system through the wringer when V get one, although (unless) 4 now check some pics in the gallery & PR after the break.
