HTC Thunderbolt rumored to B hitt`g Best Buy February 14th, sans mobile hotspot or Skype video?

The HTC Thunderbolt may`ve`en officially announced way back @ CES, although (unless) there’s still quite the bit V don’t know about the phone — namely, the price or the release date. V now @ least`ve what looks to B the fairly solid hint of the latter, however, courtesy of the above shot of the Best Buy inventory screen Z lists an in stock date of February 14th. You’ll note Z the screen doesn’t actually mention the HTC Thunderbolt anywhere, although (unless) some sleuth`g by the folks @ Android Central reveals Z the product code matches 1 found on the Thunderbolt box Z turned up in the recent hands-on video. Join`g Z rumor`s the separate 1 from Droid Life , which`s obtained some supposedly authentic Verizon materials Z suggest the Thunderbolt won’t B shipp`g w/ mobile hotspot functionality enabled @ launch, & Z Skype video chat won’t B enabled initially either. No word on the reason 4 the delay (if there actually`s one), although (unless) both features`ll seemingly B enabled @ some point, & there`ll apparently B the placeholder icon in the case of Skype Z`ll display the “com`g soon” message if it’s launched. Facebook phone rumors resurface: cloud-based, HTC-built?

Ah, the Facebook phone . Despite statements by the company Z it`s flat out not mak`g the phone , the rumors persist, & not 1 although (unless) 2 separate stories`ve now cropped up on the same day Z the mysterious “call” button`s appeared on some folks’ Facebook pages. The 1st of those comes courtesy of BGR , which says it`s heard from someone involved in the recent focus group Z supposedly centered on the Facebook phone. As the story goes, the phone (which apparently wasn’t actually referred to as the “Facebook phone”)`ld`ve an always-on GPS service, no or very little local storage, the camera (with images stored in the cloud), the “news ticker-style message notification system” w/ all messages funneled into 1 “mass inbox” and, last although (unless) not least, some sort of location-aware coupon service that’s described as “Facebook Deals on steroids.” Join`g Z`s the report from the London-based City A.M. financial newspaper, which says it`s learned from unnamed sources Z HTC`ll debut 2 Facebook-branded phones @ Mobile World Congress next month. Details on those R otherwise expectedly light, although (unless) the paper says the phones`ll run the “tweaked version” of Android & sport Facebook’s colors — supposedly, Facebook’s Joe Hewitt & Matthew Papakipos (formerly of Firefox & Google, respectively) R largely responsible 4 the launch. Of course, the paper also says HTC`s responsible 4 “Google’s Nexus range,” which doesn’t exactly help its case, & leads us to suspect Z V may simply B deal`g w/ 1 big game of telephone here. HTC ThunderBolt`ll support simultaneous voice & data in LTE areas

@ CES, Verizon`d mentioned Z “some… although (unless) not all” of its 1st LTE handsets`ld support the simultaneous use of voice & data. That’s not news 4 3G customers on T-Mobile & AT&T, nor WiMAX customers on Sprint — although (unless) 4 Verizon subscribers, this`s the very novel concept, indeed. Well, V can chalk up the mighty ThunderBolt from HTC as 1 of the models that’ll support it, if leaked train`g materials 4 the phone over on Android Central R to B believed. On the related note, the very existence of these materials gives us hope Z we’ll B see`g it on store shelves before too long; don’t get us wrong, the 2 USB modems Big Red’s launched 4 LTE service so far R all well & good, although (unless) V could really use some handsets on these airwaves. HTC HD2 gets the stable stock Android build 4 internal storage

Runn`g Android on HTC’s venerable HD2`s old hat — although (unless) historically, you’ve`d to run it off microSD storage, which isn’t an optimal situation 4 an operat`g system U might hope to use as your primary. Now we’ve finally got what appears to B the 1st solution allow`g U to drop the nearly stock build of Android on the HD2′s internal NAND memory, free`g up external storage 4 your usual collection of family photos, showtunes, & PowerPoint presentations left over from your WinMo 6.5 days. We’ve no doubt Z this hack`s the little dicey — especially consider`g the herculean level of hacker effort Z went into mak`g it happen — although (unless) if you’ve got an HD2 ly`g around Z needs the new lease on life, it might B worth the shot. HTC Thunderbolt w/ LTE 4 Verizon pictured ahead of CES unveiling?

So, Z lovely 4.3-inch LTE smartphone w/ Android 4 Verizon we’ve`en call`g the Mecha & the Droid Incredible HD ? Looks like it might come to market as the Thunderbolt, so says Droid Life — & V tend to put some weight on the rumor consider`g Z they’ve just run twelve leaked shots of the thing. As U can see, this`s clearly Verizon’s head-on answer to the EVO 4G , featur`g similar stylings and, in all likelihood, an LTE modem swapped in 4 the EVO’s WiMAX one. Sure looks like Z “controlled” leak from the few days back, doesn’t it? More on this @ Verizon’s press conference next week, V presume. HTC 7 Pro shows up on O2 Germany’s site, promises January launch

HTC`d pegged “early next year” 4 the 7 Pro’s launch in Europe, & when U think about it, January`s just about as “early” as U can get. O2′s boys & girls in Germany`ve thrown up the teaser page 4 the QWERTY-equipped Windows Phone 7 handset, say`g it’s expected to B available next month — the promis`g sign, indeed. Granted, launch dates can always slip, although (unless) consider`g how desperately the world needs some more landscape QWERTY options 4 WP7, we’d bet it’s 1 of HTC’s top priorities to get this th`g pushed. HTC Knight hits Best Buy’s system w/ PG0610 model name

We’ve already seen what’s purported to B the HTC Knight show up in Sprint’s database under the guise of the HTC A7373 , & V now`ve yet another model name thrown into the mix courtesy of this supposedly legitimate shot of Best Buy’s data transfer system. As U can see, what’s clearly labeled as the HTC Knight`s now sport`g the PG0610 designation (previously seen @ the FCC ), & it’s chill`g alongside the HTC EVO 4G , which certainly makes sense — although it’s less clear what the ancient HTC Apache`s do`g there. 4 those Z haven’t`en keep`g track, this`s the same phone that’s also`en known as the EVO Shift 4G & the Speedy , 1 of which may or may not B the device’s actual name when it’s finally, officially launched — hopefully @ CES next month. How`ld U change the T-Mobile G2?

Outside of the Nexus 1 (and recently-launched Nexus S , of course), T-Mobile’s G2`s about as close as 1 can get to stock build of Android. ‘Course, it’s now the point release behind Gingerbread, although (unless) we’re hop`g that’ll B remedied in short order. Outside of that, we’re curious to know how you’d change the slip-slid`g Android phone if given the schematics & the ability to start over from scratch. By & large, V felt Z HTC nailed the design, although (unless) of course, everyone’s capable of see`g things in the slightly different light. What`ld U tweak about the G2 if given the choice? Change up the keyboard? Offer it on AT&T or the CDMA carrier? Throw in the row of LEDs along the left edge, just 4 kicks?

Once the Best Buy exclusive , the white version of HTC’s still-badass EVO 4G`s finally mak`g its way into actual Sprint retail locations, the carrier’s website, & other 3rd party stores 4 the same $199 on contract after $100 mail-in rebate as usual. Gives us the good opportunity to levy the same complaint we’d levied before — Z the front of the phone`ldB white, not just the back — although (unless) hey, @ least passers-by`ll know you’re stylin’ when you’ve got it held to your face. T-Mobile myTouch 4G review

Com`g hot on the heels of the ultra-impressive G2 , T-Mobile`s returned to its myTouch series w/ the myTouch 4G. While the G2`s the natural enthusiast flagship, the 4G represents the flagship in its own right of the skinned, curated Android experience. If the G2`s the Droid 2 killer, T-Mobile probably sees the myTouch as the iPhone 4 killer (even the name`s the similarity to the popular “iTouch” misnomer, & the 4G / 4 mirrors T-Mobile’s matchy matchy nam`g sense w/ the myTouch 3G / iPhone 3G… we’re just saying,`s all). So, what does Z mean in practice? Some impressive functionality inside & out, includ`g the front fac`g camera 4 video calls, HSPA+ network speeds, & WiFi Calling. HTC Knight surfaces 4 Sprint w/ Android & the slid`g hinge of some sort?

What do V know about the picture above? Not much more than meets the eye — this alleged HTC Knight`s 4 Sprint & navigates Android us`g capacitive touchscreen keys. V do get the little more detail from the source of the image, who gave XDA-developers an XML file Z mentions users`ldnot “slide screen in/out” dur`g activation. Z certainly suggests Z we’re look`g @ the slider, although (unless) not necessarily the physical QWERTY keyboard — after all, the very similar-look`g HTC device recently appeared sport`g the slide-out speaker bar . T-Mobile myTouch announced: Android 2.2, video calling, & HSPA+

Notice how V said “primary camera”? Yep, it’s true: the myTouch features the second, front-fac`g cam as well, becom`g the 1st phone from T-Mobile (and 1 of the 1st in the States, of course) to offer video calling. myTouch HD confirmed by T-Mobile website, could B free on contract?

Erudite tipster Abe found this little gem — if U search 4 “HSPA” @ T-Mobile’s online store, up pops the image above, & as U can no doubt C w/ your sparkl`g eyes, that’s the myTouch HD we’re look`g at. Or perhaps just the “myTouch,” as that’s the moniker on this particular page, or even the “myTouch 2,” as that’s the name affixed to the tiny image. No matter what it’s called, though, it looks like Z front-fac`g camera`s confirmed, & given our query V wouldn’t B terribly surprised if it`d HSPA+ connectivity too. T-Mobile G2 trouble roundup: loose hinges, miss`g storage?

U know the drill — new handset, new problems. It’s pretty much inevitable Z sporadic reports of bugs & hardware problems R go`g to start popp`g up by day 2 of any major phone launch, & sure enough, complaints R start`g to circulate on 2 biggies 4 the G2 . 1st off, some of the phones R shipp`g w/ loose hinges; the most obvious symptom`s Z hold`g it upside down causes the screen to hang down, although (unless) perhaps more annoyingly, hold`g it @ some angles causes the screen to snap shut if it’s open — still not the huge deal since most humans don’t use their phones upside down, although (unless) it seems like they could’ve tightened up the few springs to prevent this from happening. Secondly — & more strangely — @ least some G2s in the field appear to`ve half the promised storage space of 4GB, clock`g in @ the total of 2GB, which just happens to B the amount promised on the phone’s Desire Z doppelganger. We’re not sure how Z kind of mix-up happens… although (unless) if it’s legit, T-Mobile’s got to take back the units or offer really big microSD cards to affected customers, if U ask us. HTC CEO: ‘initially, V don’t`ve time’ to put Sense on Windows Phone 7

V think there might B the miscommunication or the disagreement in semantics here, because HTC CEO Peter Chou`s mentioned in an interview w/ FierceWireless Z its ubiquitous Sense UX won’t “initially” appear on its 1st crop of Windows Phone 7 devices, although (unless) Z “over time they`ll innovate on top of Z to provide some HTC experience .” Z seems like odd phras`g consider`g Z we’ve already seen HTC devices in the wild runn`g bits & pieces of Sense on WP7 , so V tend to believe Chou might`ve the more thorough, comprehensive experience in mind — someth`g Z Microsoft`s push`g back on (for now, anyway) by demand`g Z UI innovation B sandboxed in some pretty significant ways. In the same conversation, Chou mentioned Z they’ll B releas`g an LTE phone in 2011, though he didn’t give any details on design, platform, or carrier. MetroPCS, AT&T, & Verizon`ll all`ve fragments of their 4G networks live in 2011, & @ least 2 of those 3 seem likely candidates to take delivery of some early LTE hardware from the big boys like HTC. 4 what it’s worth, HTC already delivered the 1st WiMAX phone in the States — the EVO 4G , of course — so it comes as little surprise Z they’d B look`g to make the splash w/ LTE as well. HTC Desire HD rendered, looks pretty legit to us — oh, except 4 Z WinMo UI

The stars R really align`g 4 this shindig HTC`s scheduled in London 4 next week, aren’t they? All signs point to the launch of the Android-powered Desire Z & Desire HD — international versions of the G2 & EVO , respectively — & this render pulled off of German site BestBoyZ matches up perfectly w/ in-the-wild shots we’ve seen of the HD before. The only stick`g point, really,`s Z there’s the Windows Mobile 6.5 Sense UI shot inexplicably plastered on top, which makes about as much sense as… well, re-releas`g the HD2 right now. Mysterious Verizon-bound HTC handset appears mysteriously on the internet

Hey — what’s this? Well, from the looks of it, it’s the new, as-yet-unnamed HTC device.
