iPad 2 display leaked?

Do U believe what you’re seeing? 9to5Mac along w/ iFixYouri repair say they’ve got the new iPad 2 display. Better yet, they’ve got the purported part number: LP097X02-SLN1, compared to the original iPad’s LP097X02-SLA3 display. It’s said to B lighter & more than 1-mm thinner than the original while featur`g the thinner bezel as well — right, just as the rumors`ve said. Such the display`ld also enable some taper`g of the edges in line w/ those milled aluminum dummies we’ve seen. The big mystery`s still the resolution which the 9to5Mac commenter claims to`ve extracted from the part number to reveal its LG Phillips 9.7in XGA 1024 x 768 H-IPS display origins (same resolution as the current iPad). However, we`ve no way to confirm Z as of this time. 1 more pic of the part number details after the break. Continue read`g iPad 2 display leaked?

Music Man Game Changer robo guitar features 250k pickup configurations (video)

“Game Changer” must B the most over-used word in the world of technology, & V try to avoid it as much as possible. Thanks to Music Man, however, it looks like this time V won’t B able to. The, ahem , Game Changer`s — in this case — an all-analog pickup switch`g system similar to what we’ve seen in robot guitars in the past. Set to make its debut in select Reflect guitar & bass models this year, the system boasts over 250,000 pickup coil configurations, & since the pickup`s be`g physically rewired, there`s never any digitiz`g or model`g in the system. The USB port`s 4 download`g different configurations from your computer — many of which`ll B available on the company website, although of course U can always roll your own. Record number of aircraft ‘laser events’ gives us 1 more reason to hate LA

R U Z kid aim`g his father’s laser pointer @ people walk`g along city sidewalks? Yeah, well stop it — now. What U might consider the harmless prank can`ve serious repercussions when aimed @ the cockpit of an approach`g jetliner. What seems like good fun @ the time can temporarily blind the pilot attempt`g to land nearly the million pounds of life, metal, & fuel. Accord`g to the numbers just released by the FAA, 2010 saw the record number of reports of lasers pointed @ aircraft — “almost double” the number of reports from 2009. Of the 2,800 incidents reported nationwide, the Los Angeles area reported the most w/ 201 incidents, followed by Chicago (98), Pheonix (80, half of which were probably UFO related), & San Jose (80 — nerds!). Lunchtime Clock mod offers false promises to beleaguered office workers

We’ve seen the lot of DIY clock mods in the past, although (unless) the Lunchtime Clock`s to B the most useless. It’s great in theory: the th`g speeds up 20 percent start`g @ 11AM & slows down twenty percent @ 11:48AM. So, @ 11:48AM the clock reads noon, & by 1:00PM it’s back in sync, giv`g U an extra 12 minutes to digest Z chili dog U so hastily sucked down before return`g to work. Here’s the catch: watches, cellphones, & computers also tell time, & if U work in an office where you’ve got to fake it to get an extra 12 minutes w/ your chili dog, U can bet your boss isn’t trust`g ye olde wall clock. So, before U go tinker`g w/ your office timepiece, thank the heavens you’ve`en blessed w/ an hour long lunch break to begin with. V hear the guy @ the chili dog stand only gets 15 minutes. IDC & Gartner: US PC sales drop as tablets shake things up

It’s time again to look @ the rapidly chang`g face of home computing. The last time V got an IDC report on US PC sales it showed generally rosy figures, w/ everyone other than Dell grow`g & Apple mak`g the huge jump. This time we`ve numbers from both IDC & Gartner, & while they don’t agree on everything, it’s clear things R rather less positive. Overall growth in this quarter`s negative (6.6 percent decline 4 Gartner, 4.8 4 IDC) & Apple`s now in position number five, dropp`g from number 3 , w/ the other top 4 comprised of HP, Dell, Toshiba, & Acer — though Toshiba & Acer swap places as U move from IDC to Gartner. Both reports cite tablet sales (i.e. the iPad ) as be`g @ least partly responsible 4 the decline in traditional computer sales, the trend that’s predicted to continue in 2011. Based on what V saw @ CES , we’d say that’s the safe bet.

Movea SmartMotion Air Mini Keyboard remote & Air Mouse revealed alongside Sunrex partnership

Don’t quote us on this, although (unless) we’ve got the feel`g Z remotes`ll B more than just remotes by the time 2012 rolls around. HDTV companies`ve`en slyly add`g motion support to their remotes here @ CES, & w/ PrimeSense’s technology go`g over so well in the Kinect, there’s an obvious next-step when look`g @ TV control. Movea — the company responsible 4 the Gyration Air Mouse & Air Mouse iOS app –`s just teamed up w/ Sunrex here @ CES, w/ the newly formed relationship expect`g to yield new kit based on the former’s MotionIC platform & SmartMotion technology. Among the many new-product announcements Z`ve`en released in the time lead`g up to CES, word on the web`s Z Dell`ll launch the new Latitude 2120 netbook @ the Vegas convention next week. Once 1 network attached storage manufacturer upgraded to 3TB hard drives , it`s only the matter of time before the rest followed suit, & this time it’s Synology’s turn w/ the DiskStation DS1511+. In case U haven’t done the math already, this particular unit can store up to 15 terabytes of your juiciest secrets across 5 3TB hot-swappable drives, & its 1.8GHz dual-core processor & 1GB of memory handles the RAID 5 array capable of speed`g Z data across the local area network @ up to 197 MB / sec read speeds & 165 MB / sec writes. If Z capacity isn’t enough to house your plan 4 world domination & monitor all the IP cameras in your underground volcano lair, the unit can scale up to 45TB w/ the couple of secondary expansion units, each w/ 5 more 3TB drives of their own. How`ld U change Nokia’s N8?

There’s no need to tell U Z the lot`s (and still is, in the way) rid`g on Nokia’s N8 . It`s said to B the outfit’s 1st dead-serious smartphone to rival the giants of today, & it`s also Nokia’s 1st chance to truly reveal Symbian^3 to the world. We’ve already churned out our 2 pennies on the matter, although (unless) 4 those of U who bought in, now’s the time to get really real. R U satisfied w/ where Nokia’s go`g w/ the N8? Nokia E7 hits Amazon: pay $679 & they’ll ship it when they’ve got it

You’ll probably B wait`g the few weeks @ the very least — although (unless) if U want to put in your order early, Amazon’s US site`s more than happy to take your name 4 Nokia’s latest QWERTY monster. The E7`s runn`g the stout $679 — & that’s not through the 3rd party, that’s Amazon’s direct price 4 an official American version of the phone w/ the full manufacturer warranty. Feels pricey to us, although (unless) Amazon’s pric`g tends to fluctuate fairly regularly, so V wouldn’t B @ all surprised to C this fall the bit by the time the phone actually ships — & if Espoo announces the rumored MeeGo -powered N9 by the time the E7′s available, they might need to discount it the whole lot. webOS 2.0 4 the Sprint Palm Pre leaks out, added features in tow

Palm promised Z webOS 2.0`ld hit all of its devices in the “com`g months,” & it looks like work`s truck`g right along — V were just sent these shots of the updated OS runn`g in beta form on the original Sprint Palm Pre. Obviously there’s not much here Z V didn’t pore over in our exhaustive webOS 2.0 review , although (unless) we’re not`g the addition of voice dial`g & some preferences 4 the screensaver-like Exhibition View — we’re told just the time works right now, although (unless) photos, agenda view, & Facebook R all listed. Interestingly, this 1st beta`s labeled “HP webOS Nova-Barley” & carries the version number of 2.0.1, w/ builds 4 the unlocked Pre & AT&T / Verizon Pre Plus also available — the Pixi & Pre 2 variants of this build haven’t`en completed. Performance`s said to B solid, although “not fast enough,” & things R the little buggy, which makes sense 4 the 1st beta. The final build Z goes out as an OTA update`ll apparently B version 2.1, although that’s not totally confirmed yet — we’re told Z there R references to the “Nova-Barleywine” in the code, although (unless) it’s not clear if that’s another 2.x version or someth`g else entirely. Yes, it’s all very exciting, although (unless) unfortunately none of this`s what V really want: new phones & new tablets . Let’s get cracking, Palm.

Novatel’s USB551L LTE modem 4 Verizon in the wild, does Mac support out of the box

How many dedicated LTE -capable USB modems does Verizon need? @ least three, apparently, because we’ve just`en sent shots of Novatel’s upcom`g USB551L Z looks perhaps the tad glossier & sleeker than the Pantech & LG models Z`ve preceded it . Hard to say from the spec sheet here, although (unless) it looks like there’s @ least the chance this`s LTE-only without CDMA / EV-DO fallback since there’s no explicit mention of it; unlikely consider`g how small Verizon’s LTE footprint`s 4 the time being, although (unless) U never know. More importantly, there`s explicit mention of Mac support, someth`g the carrier’s current options lack. No word on the release date or pricing, although (unless) V imagine it won’t B long now Z these dummy units — which U can C in the gallery below — R float`g around. Android , iOS , webOS , & Windows Phone R all better than they’ve ever`en before, carrier lineups R bigger, & even choos`g the plan can B the daunt`g process if U don’t know what you’re look`g for. although (unless) hey, don’t let the stress of decid`g between the Droid X & the Droid Incredible put the damper on the excitement of gett`g the truly awesome gadget — we’ve got your back! Joby tempts the argonauts w/ Switchback headlamp / lantern

Call us crazy, although (unless) we’re guess`g Z the Joby U knew last year`ll look noth`g like the Joby Z V C this time next year. Once famous 4 craft`g flexible tripods 4 simple point & shoot cameras, the outfit`s branched out quite significantly since. Case in point: the Switchback. Joby’s still rely`g on its flexible mount expertise by includ`g the tripod w/ this here light`g instrument, although (unless) it’s the device itself Z steals the show. The water resistant Switchback`s the two-piece product; there’s the headlamp Z can B worn around your dome, & it can B shoved into the lantern container 4 those sit-around-the-campfire moments. The light itself`s the central white beam w/ 2 power levels, & it’s surrounded by the foursome of Cree LEDs Z shine blue or red (and can B toggled w/ the button press). Joby throws the pair of AA batteries in 4 good measure, & in our testing, V found it sufficient enough 4 backyard gatherings & the like. The lantern apparatus`s the clip on the bottom in order to affix the aforesaid tripod, although (unless) in practice V found it fairly simple to tip over when not wrapped around the tree limb

Pleo Reborn detailed by Innvo CEO, 1 lucky fan finds & buys the tiny dino (video)

It’s called the Pleo Reborn (or “RB” 4 short) & the primary features R these: the lithium-polymer battery good 4 2 hours of continuous use, the much tougher hide, & an RFID “sense of smell” Z lets it interact w/ the variety of optional accessories to “eat,” take medicine 4 virtual injuries & learn new tricks as U go. The little creature’s also got 4 additional touch sensors, the temperature sensor, the gravity sensor & an internal clock to tell the time of day, improved motors, & basic voice recognition — & the Hong Kong packag`g suggests the dinos`ll even come in 2 different sexes. NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 on sale @ Newegg, ahead of official release

Just like its older sibl`g the GTX 460 , NVIDIA’s GeForce GTS 450`s hitt`g online stores, even though we’ve yet to hear the word from NVIDIA itself about the new Fermi-based graphics card. While V can’t confirm rumors Z the GTS 450′s got the new GF106 chip under Z plastic shroud, it seems evident we’re look`g @ the somewhat less powerful board — shipp`g samples from ASUS, EVGA, Gigabyte & Palit show just 192 CUDA cores (down from 336) & the narrower 128-bit memory interface. Z doesn’t mean the GTS 450 won’t necessarily B the capable gamer, though, as the graphics & shader chips R actually clocked closer to 800MHz & 1.6GHz respectively this time, & so far they’re all paired w/ the full 1GB of GDDR5 memory w/ the same 3.6GHz effective rate — no 768MB cop-outs. @ around $130 the pop, V imagine dedicated graphics enthusiasts`ll spend the extra to get those bonus cores, although (unless) if you’ve only got 3 portraits of Ulysses S. Verizon FiOS set-top boxes gett`g the new HD guide, external storage & more in Q4

Due in Q4 along w/ its FlexView app 4 mobile VOD access, version 1.9 of its FiOS TV guide software`ll finally add the 16×9 HDTV-fill`g guide to those Motorola boxes & it looks like many of our suggestions (and yours, accord`g to Director of Product Management Joe Ambeault) made it in. Beyond the fresh coat of paint (although, w/ animated transitions, highly customizable view`g & brows`g options & 3D-ish elements it’s shap`g up to B the very nice fresh coat of paint), the real meat`s in the enhanced DVR features.
