“You wouldn’t make a modern version of a painting”
Google lust supper.
“why make a newer version of a film or book”
the story might be great, but the production technology might be outdated. Compare the old and the new War of the Worlds.
the characters/morale might be great, but you want to transfer it into todays world. There are very few <20 year olds, who watched Citizen Kane. Its BW, outdated. How about a new Cititzen Kane, about an Internet-Newscorp. Same characters, but new.
I for one like lengthy copyrights. Why re-make something that’s already been done? You wouldn’t make a modern version of a painting for instance, so why make a newer version of a film or book?
@CGPGrey i thought of a really great add slogan for klondike, but can i copyright the slogan if it has klondike in it, because im assuming that the word klondike is copyrighted and you cant copyright something that has an already copyrighted word in it
However, doesn’t Japan allow something called doujin which is like fan-art creation?
@meloearth perhaps, but i understand him just fine :S
This video is factually flawed, and just plain fucking incorrect. But YouTube listens to anyone with silly drawings, who’s speaking fast.
@TheToasterOfScience Oh.
@DangerousMuteLunatic
No, because the fanfiction writers probably aren’t getting money for their work. If they do end up earning money from their work, then it’s illegal.
So, technically, Fanfiction is illegal.
@jakrojan same here my gf hasn’t stopped laughing since
anime edition XD good idea though
I like your videos but you speak too fast. Why? You have plenty of time to make slower, longer videos. Thanks for considering.
Amen.
Great video, but I’m surprised you didn’t get into the copyright of the song “Happy Birthday To Me.”
That Star Wars appearance just scared the crap out of me.
You Sir(CGPGrey) are awsome!
Copyright is bad because people should share? haha… sorry.. copyright is good, because I put in the hard work and it should belong to me, my children, my estate, not someone without any creative ideas of their own. The Teefury generation has got to stop.
I am suddenly intruiged by this Star wars anime
VERY nicely explained. Thank-you for educating the internet
Thank you!
